If you are suffering from itchy skin no rash, you must be deeply concerned about its cause. Usually, there is a rash or some type of bite when there is itching of the skin and in such an instance, the cause would be very obvious. However, if there is skin itching without rash, it can be very frustrating for the sufferer, as there is no clear indication of what is causing it. The person who suffers usually does not know what to do.
The itching condition of the skin is known in medical terms as pruritus. The main cause of skin itches with no rash is dryness, which is known medically as xerosis. Although dry skin is not a serious condition, its symptoms can nevertheless cause much uneasiness and discomfort for the sufferer. In dry skin, plump cells wither, which causes wrinkles and fine lines to appear. The skin will start appearing dehydrated, shrunken and rough. There can be peeling, scaling or flaking and the skin will feel taut and stretched. If the dryness is severe, there will be itching as well, which can range from mild to severe. Itchy skin no rash can therefore result from overly dry skin.
Another possible cause of skin itching with no rash is scabies, which is a condition of the skin that is caused by very tiny burrowing mites called Sarcoptes scabiei. Severe itch usually results from the activities of these tiny mites, which gives the person an urge to scratch the skin particularly at night. Scabies is very contagious and it can spread from one person to another through an item they both use. Scratching skin without a rash has also been observed in people who have some kind of medical conditions, which include poor circulation and liver or kidney malfunction.
No matter what the cause for itchy skin no rash and itchy head may be, it must be brought under some kind of control. A home remedy that you can try is an ice wrapped in a clean cotton cloth and rubbed on the affected part. The ice helps by cooling the affected skin down and hydrating it. Do this method for around two minutes, two or three times each day but do not use bare ice as it can further damage your skin. You can also mix a cup of oatmeal in a tub of water and then bathe in the mixture every other day. This will greatly relieve the itchy legs and other parts of the body.
If you feel an urge to scratch the affected area, try not to give in to it. Do something else that will keep your hands busy and keep your mind off the itching. Too much scratching can damage the itchy skin further, which can lead to more dermatological problems. You should also avoid wearing clothing that fit loosely or made from fibrous acrylic or wool materials as these can make itchy skin no rash even worse. If it is summer, try to avoid sweating excessively or drowning yourself in too much heat and drink plenty of water as well.
